Translational Research Institute, Brisbane
It was an honour to be part of the team working on one of Australia’s flagship research centres. From the moment we walked into Brisbane’s Translational Research Institute we understood how special this building is.
Rakumba worked with Light and Design Group to deliver on Donovan Hill’s design intent. The designer wanted the composition to be different to what’s normally done. They wanted something bespoke. Something unique. This led us through a number of iterations and prototypes to reach a design of spectacular scale that could be delivered practically with newly developed manufacturing techniques using fabric specially made for the project.
We worked collaboratively with the team in Queensland to resolve challenges during the development and installation phases. Rakumba manufactured over 1000 pendants in Melbourne for this project, transporting them in shipping containers for installation in Brisbane. Our local support ensured we were there to make sure problems were dealt with by us and in a timely fashion – one of the main reasons the construction team were confident they could rely on us.
TRI was a testament to our team’s project management skills. All within tight deadlines we were able to combine international suppliers, national logistics and local manufacturing for an outcome we’re proud of.
